And then came Snooki....
There's a lot Jersey Shore hating out there, but to my complete and utter shock, Snooki just earned some respect from me.
I had the honor of spinning Bootlegger's famous Mardi Gras party on Tuesday with Snooki from MTV's Jersey Shore. The party was downright craziness. Doors opened at 10AM, there was mechanical bulls, lots of beads, Wired 96.5, and of course in the evening The Queen of Mardi Gras - Snooki. Now, I'd be lying if I said I've ever seen an episode of Jersey Shore, I just have no desire to watch that, but I don't live in a bubble and have seen snippets of Snooki interviews and whatnot here and there. Say what you want about her, but the girl earned some respect from me on Tuesday and here's why...
People are haters. Nothing wrong with that. It makes thick skinned people even tougher and better at what they do. Snooki got booed when she made an entrance on Tuesday... bad. I think for the crowd that was part of the appeal. Now she could have easily been angry for the rest of the night, sat in the VIP, drank free drinks, collected her money and went home (which is what most "celebrity hosts" tend to do anyway), but she didn't. She didn't sit down the entire 3 hours she was there. She met and talked to everyone who wanted meet her. She took photos with EVERYONE... easily several hundred. And she came on stage and partied with the crowd... dancing with the fellas, giving beads out to the ladies. Bottom line, she won over a crowd that didn't gave her the nastiest welcome I've ever seen a "celebrity host" get. She wasn't bitter, she was better... and no matter what I think/thought of her, that deserves my respect.

Wow, that was a great weekend! We finally got a break from the snow here on the East Coast, and let me tell you people were ready to party.
On Saturday I made my return to in-store DJing at Guess Clothing in Center City after having January off. I felt good to be home again.
Saturday night we lit up Denim for Velvet Elite's Valentine's edition of Casual Encounters. The crowd was amazing and I had more fun than I've had DJing in a long time. Shoutouts to Fazio & Justin for throwin the damn thang, The Mayor for holding it down, Brandon & Xen for doing their thing, Cassy & Alex for letting the shots flow, and for all the great DJs who stopped by to party with me... Tamara Sky, Isaac Jordan, & Elvis Suarez of EZ Money.
Sunday night it was the Cool Kids Valentine's party at Strongbox. The ladies were in full force!
All in all, I had fun. Weekends like this remind me why I DJ.

*It's 2010 Bitches*
Just wrapped up the past two weeks of holidays and working at some great events! First off, it was so unbelievably nice to spend a couple days in North Jersey with family and friends... much needed. But I was running back and forth a bit to DJ some really cool parties. We had the 2nd annual Icon Bookings Holiday Party on Dec 23rd. Almost our whole roster was there and everybody threw down great sets. It's amazing to hear so many good DJs under one roof, ending in a 10 DJ scratch session
New Year's Eve was a whole other ballgame! I was fortunate enough to DJ at the Glitter City Gala at the Constitution Center in Philly. This is the kind of big event I just love being a part of... 1,600 people (it was sold out) all having a great time and partying together to bring in a new decade. Lots of fun.
I can't wait to see what 2010 will bring.

New Year's Eve... the biggest party night of the entire year is a little more than a week away. I've been getting a lot of questions regarding where I'll be this NYE, so I wanted to invite all my friends and followers out to ring in the new year with me at the Glitter Gala in Philadelphia. I won't say much about it in this e-mail, because they're website goes into lots and lots of detail and will answer any question you could have. I'll be rotating DJ sets in alongside a fantastic cover band and the night is looking like a tremendous amount of fun! Here's the link (but don't hesitate to hit me up with any questions you may have as well) -http://www.nyephilly.com/gcg/r/djtommydiz/
!!!Oh, I almost forgot!!! If you are planning on attending, I have a promo code that you can use at checkout to save $10. The code is - TOMMYDIZ10
In other news, I had the opportunity to DJ an industry party for Alister & Paine magazine last week in NYC. The event was great, the space was great, and the people were awesome. If you get a second, check out their press release about me and about the party in general -http://www.pitchengine.com/dj-tommy-diz-spins-corporate-vip-event-for-alister--paine/38001/
It's also time for the Icon Bookings DJ family to spread some holiday cheer... we're having our 2nd annual holiday party on Wed December 23rd (9PM) at Play2 (located next to Chickie & Pete's in South Philadelphia). The list of DJs performing at the party is our roster and it's an unbelievably sick amount of talent under one roof!
Here's who will be DJing at the Icon holiday party:
-DJ Sat One - Dusk
-DJ Impulse - Denim
-DJ A-Run - Recess
-DJ Tommy Diz - Bleu Martini
-DJ Royale - Dusk
-DJ Aiden Scott - Zee Bar
-DJ Eddie Edge - Harrah's Pool
-DJ Tito - Kildares
-DJ Prime - NYC
-DJ Twist - NYC
-DJ Carm - Taylors
-DJ Vito G. - Harrahs Pool

philly fashion week? why?
this isn't going to be a rant, and i'm not a hater, i just feel the need to share my views on this particular subject. and to prove i'm not a hater... i genuinely like philly. i moved down here almost three years ago & quite honestly, philly is the last city in the world i thought i would end up in. before i ever came here for anything i would hate on philly... i was nyc to the core. but, i'm still here, and i like it here. so there... ny... keep your expensive rent, i found a new jungle to call home.
now, with that said, why is philly attempting a fashion week? only 3 us cities come to mind when it comes to fashion - nyc, miami, & la (please correct me if i'm wrong). philly is NOT a high fashion city... in fact, wasn't it recently rated the ugliest city in america (google it). sure, there are a handful of extremely attractive people floating around certain parts of center city, mainline, & even a few pockets of south jersey... but the survey has spoken. honestly, i disagree with that conclusion, but i guess i'm not objective enough to vote on the subject anyway. we also do have several good fashion programs here at our prestigious art schools, but nothing that i believe warrants a fashion week in the city of brotherly love.
so... why is philly having a fashion week? because philly (as a whole) just loves to expose it's insecurity about new york city every chance it gets. we're close, less than two hours away from one of the greatest cities in the world, and we are overshaddowed like no other. bottom line, nyc is a "global city" and philly is a "national city". and that will most likely never change.
that's not necessarily saying ny is so much better (or even better at all) than philadelphia. we have lots of charm and great things to offer that ny is lacking in. so philly, how about we highlight those things that make us a great city instead of compete in an area where we don't belong and embarass ourselves as a city once again. we aren't nyc, we aren't a fashion city, and nobody outside of philly cares about philly fashion week. give it up. time to show the world what we have that is unique and makes us special, not give ourselves another 2nd rate event to have a dillusional sense of importance about.
i love philly for what it is, so please philly, be what you are.
got a comment? holla at me & i'll post it up.
until next time.

great weekend of gigs! all respect to my ace dj royale who i got the opportunity to rip dusk in atlantic city up with on friday. dude has serious skills and is destined for greatness, seriously. drove back to philly to drop a daytime set at the adidas originals on south st, then back again to ac. saturday night i was on the turntables at the foundation room in the house of blues along with the cast of showtime's "the l word". i don't get any kind of starstruck too often, but i had the opportunity to hang out in the dj booth with pam grier... pam grier, the original foxy brown. big shoutouts to her, she's an awesome person. here's a pic of me with pam & melissa...
this friday i get to play at philly's new afterhours hotspot, recess. this place looks bananas, and i really think it might be the first spot in philly to bring an authentic atlantic city nightlife vibe. very excited. peep their website - www.recesslounge.com
